Potpourri

I am now offering potpourri in the Etsy shop - GardenLynn as well as the soaps. Potpourri is selling for $2.50 for a nice size bag and the fragrance is heavenly. You can purchase at the shop or simply by emailing me. Here are some photos of the potpourri and our current soaps.

Work

There are just never enough hours in the day. I took a few days off from work to get some personal things done and to take care of Beany for the weekend so that Richard and Kate could go to Columbia for the weekend. Today is Richard's birthday, and yesterday was Kate's.

I wanted to get soaps finished, my shop decorated for fall, clean the house, and several other things, but somehow I didn't get hardly any of that done. I have one more day off, and so I am hoping that I will be able to accomplish more.....

Moving my Shop

I had to move my little shop from one area to another in the antique store this week. I decided to downsize since things have slowed and I am not selling very much. Talk about a lot of work! Whew! But, I really think I like the smaller area better than the larger one. I am in the process of making some fall decorations for the shop and I am going over tomorrow and decorate. Having a few days off has been really nice. I need about a year off to get everything done that I need to do, but I don't foresee that happening. The holidays are coming up though, and I have lots of work to do to get the soaps made and ready and to get the little shop stocked with goodies!

Knots of Yarn

I was over on Ravelry and learned that Knots of Yarn in Cumming, GA is closing. It's very sad. We knitters, crocheters and quilters all need our shops and when they close, it is a very sad day. Recently, Share the Spirit Quilt and Yarn Shop in downtown Duluth closed and it was such a sad event.

My shop, Yarn Garden, in Lawrenceville means so much to me and all my fellow knitters. I have such a good time when I go over there, which is not often because of my work schedule. Carol and Jane, Shirley, and all the girls are the first ones to help me if I get stuck. When I have a pattern that I want to do and don't know what yarn, they spend all the time needed to help me find the right yarn.

I just hope that the economy gets better soon, so that we won't have any more closings.

Contest

OK, as you know, I have made a soap for men. I don't have a name for it, so I am holding a name contest for the new soap. The scent is a combination of eucalyptus, mint, and a secret ingredient that I will call "Ocean" for the purpose of this contest. I will post a pic of the bar later on so that you will have something to look at. The person who sends me the winning name by commenting on this post, will win a sampler pack of Hettie's Garden Soap, and a bar of the new soap for men to give away. Enter as many times as you like by commenting on this post. Be sure that you leave your email address so that I can contact you if you are the winner....Come on, give me some good stuff!

It's A Girl!

I just found out today that the new grandbaby is a GIRL!!!!! Woo-hoo! I have been wanting a girl since 1972, and I am finally getting one! I can't even believe it, I am so giddy from the excitement. I have been daydreaming all day about all the things I will knit and quilt and there has to be a little girl soap, especially since I am working on a little boy soap right now. Beany is going to be a big brother! Michael and Benjamin are going to have a little girl cousin......life is good! Another little child is going to call me Mommo!

I think it is so ironic that the boy child that I was convinced was a girl in 1972, would have the first girl of my life....God works in mysterious ways.....I thank him...I love him....he is my Savior!

Making Compost

One of the best things that you can do for your garden and the environment is to compost. Adding compost to your herbs, flowers and veggies, will promote excellent growth, color and yield. Composting is one of the easiest projects to do, and requires little work. I have been composting for many years, and it helps reduce trash going into landfills and makes FREE fertilizer! If you would like more information on composting, please email me at

I finally bought a sofa!

Hard as it is to believe for those who know me, I actually bought a new sofa. I have been looking for months now, and just could not find anything I liked as much as the Blue Goose. Aside from the fact that the goose was about 15 years old, and so out of style, she was the best sofa ever. Comfortable, big and roomy. It was hard to part with her, but I finally bought my white, slipcovered sofa that I have been wanting forever. I am trying to do my whole house in cottage, vintage, shabby chic, or whatever you like to call it. My favorite colors are blue and white. I just adore them and would like to have every room in my house in that decor. Here is a picture of my new sofa....

Rules for a Good Life

I think this says all there is to say:

Rules For A Good Life

1.) Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate antidepressant.

2.) Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a clock if you have to.

3.) Always pray and make time to exercise.

4.) Spend more time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of six.

5.) Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less foods that are manufactured in Plants.

6.) Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat broccoli, almonds & walnuts.

7.) Try to make at least three people smile each day.

8.) Clear your clutter from your house, car, desk, and let new and flowing energy into your life.

9.) Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead, invest your energy in the positive present moment.

10.) Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum, that appear and fade away like algebra class ......but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

11.) Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

12.) Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

13.) Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

14.) Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

15.) You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

16.) Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

17.) Don't compare your life to others'. You have no Idea what their journey is all about.

18.) Ladies - Go on and burn those 'special' scented Candles, use the 600 thread count sheets, the good china and wear fancy lingerie now. Stop waiting for a special occasion. Every day is special.

19.) No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

20.) Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this matter?'

21.) Forgive everyone for everything.

22.) What other people think of you is none of your business.

23.) Time heals almost everything. Give time, time!

24.) However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

25.) Your job won't take care of you when you are Sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch with them.

26.) Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

27.) Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. God provides, remember?!

28.) The best is yet to come. (In Heaven)

29.) No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

30.) Do the right thing!

31.) Call your family often.

32.) Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements:
'I am thankful for __________.

Today I accomplished _________.'

33.) Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

34.) Enjoy the ride. Remember that this is not Disney World and you certainly don't want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.

35.) LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH
& LEARN . . . LIFE'S A PRESENT . . . UNWRAP IT!

Have a blessed day. Please share with friends!

And The Winner Is.....
